FURMAN'S HECTIC WEEKEND - Monroe native Jessica Furman donned her gymnastics gear twice this past weekend. Once to compete, then again to work with one of the greatest names in her sport.
On Saturday, Furman finished third in the all-around as Ursinus competed in a four-team meet at Temple University in Philadelphia.
A day later, she was breaking down the sport with an Olympic champion.
Shannon Miller, who captured gold in 1996, spent Sunday at Ursinus. Miller was filming a segment that will appear on a local television network.
Furman remembers watching those Games as a little kid on vacation in her family's motor home.
Nearly 10 years later, it was Miller watching Furman.
Furman was videotaped as she performed an event. Miller provided commentary, analyzing each attempt so viewers knew what to watch.
"She also would come up to me and correct me to make it better," Furman said. "That wasn't her intentions when she got there, but it was nice that she did it."
